BREEDING WORK WITH KAZAKH HORSES OF THE ZHABE TYPE

Abstract

The article presents the results of breeding and selection work with Kazakh horses of the Jabe type under year-round pasture-based management through purebred breeding. Jabe-type horses differ from the main population of local Kazakh horses in their higher live weight and relatively large body measurements. Jabe stallions have proven themselves as improvers of local steppe horses with a productive orientation in various environmental conditions, ranging from steppe to desert regions of Kazakhstan.

         Through purebred breeding of the Jabe type, based on their genetic characteristics, not only outstanding individual animals were obtained, but also certain genotypes were created that represent significant breeding value.

         The improvement of the breed was achieved through the reproduction and raising of horses with high genetic productivity potential, which is passed down through generations of offspring. This was carried out in breeding farms by line breeding, targeted selection, and pairing of horses.
