DYNAMICS OF THE NUMBER OF UNGULATES ON THE TERRITORY OF THE BUIRATAU STATE NATIONAL NATURE PARK

Abstract

Ungulates are one of the most important elements of natural ecosystems. Stocks of various game animals constitute a significant part of the country's natural resources. Therefore, it is important to ensure the protection of wild animals. The main objective of the study is to carry out works on control and accounting of the distribution of ungulates on the territory of the state national natural park “Buiratau” in the winter period. Field studies on the territory of the state national natural park “Buiratau” were conducted in the winter periods of 2023-2024. The current state and distribution of wild animals, as well as the dynamics of their numbers were studied. Methods of winter route counting, installation of photo traps, questionnaires and visual survey were used for the research.

On the territory of the state national natural park “Buiratau” the control of the number of ungulates was carried out in winter period. According to the data of the winter route census in 2024, the number of park ungulates amounted to 1532 individuals. The main habitat of animals in the park is forests represented by birch and aspen trees. The activity of animals was recorded in forest areas, as well as near feeding sites, which was confirmed by the data obtained using camera traps. In the course of field studies it was possible to reveal the dynamics of population size and biological characteristics of ungulates. The sex and age structure of the population was recorded and their total number was determined.
